Transportation

Rationale
Transportation services will be designed to improve the program participant and family caregiver’s ability to access community activities where the participant lives, works, shops, or regularly spend their time.
Scope
Services provided are specific to what is indicated in the individual plan and can include:
• orientation services in obtaining services or supports for safe movement from one place to another;
• accessing mobility and volunteer transportation services such as transportation coordination and accessing resources;
• travel training such as supporting program participants and their family in learning how to access and use informal, generic, and public transportation for independence and community integration;
• transportation services provided by different modalities, including: public and community transportation, taxis services, and non-traditional transportation providers;
• mileage reimbursement for transportation provided by another individual using their own car; and
• purchasing prepaid transportation vouchers and cards.
Staffing and Training
Staff and volunteers working for or contracted with Virtuous who provide supports services or spend any time alone with a participate will meet the following requirements:
• at least 18 years of age;
• possess a valid driver’s license for vehicle necessary to provide services;
• have automobile insurance for all vehicles that are owned, leased, and/or hired and used in the provision of services; and
• orientation, mobility and travel training specialists must attend and have a current certification as a travel trainer from an approved entity.
Setting and Location
Services will be provided in the Central Regions of Maryland.
