Community Integration

Rationale

Our assistive technology services works to maintain or improve program participant’s functional abilities, enhance interactions, support meaningful relationships, and promote their ability to live independently, and meaningfully participate in their community.

Scope

Services include but are not limited to:
• Assistive technology needs assessment;
• Acquisition of assistive technology such as computers, speech and communication devises, blind and low vision devises, deaf and hearing impaired devises, environmental control devises and cognitive and remote support devises;
• Programs, materials, and assistance in the development of adaptive materials;
• Training or technical assistance for the participant and their support network including family members;
• Repair and maintenance of devices and equipment;
• Programming and configuration of devices and equipment;
• Coordination and use of assistive technology devices and equipment with other necessary therapies, interventions, or services in the Person-Centered Plan;
• Services consisting of purchasing or leasing devices.
• Installation and instruction on use of assistive technology;

Staffing and Training

Staff and volunteers working for or contracted with Virtuous who provide supports services or spend any time alone with a participate will meet the following requirements:
• at least 18 years of age;
• First-Aid and CPR Certified;
• pass a criminal background check via CJIS;
• participate in in-service training on the Person-Centered Plan;
• complete orientation and training as designated by DDA;
• if administering medication, have a current CMT;
• possess a valid drivers license if transporting participants; and
• have automobile insurance for all vehicles that are owned, leased, and/or hired and used in the provision of services.

Setting and Location

Services will be provided in homes and programs compliant with the CMS ruling in the Central Regions of Maryland.
