Respite

Rationale
Under our Respite Services model, we provide families and people with short-term relieve services provided when a regular caregiver is absent or needs a break. Services are provided in the homes of or a community setting to meet planned events/activities or emergency situations, affording caregivers a time free from their role as care provider.
Scope
Short term services are provided to maintain supports and programs that are provided by caregivers and can include, but are not limited to:
• development of independence, daily living, self-advocacy, and survival skills;
• developing appropriate social behaviors;
• development of housekeeping skills;
• developing patterns of living, activities, and routines;
• coordination, training, supports or supervision to support the development and maintenance of skills; and
• personal care assistance.

Staffing and Training
Staff and volunteers working for or contracted with Virtuous who provide supports services or spend any time alone with a participate will meet the following requirements:
• at least 16 years of age;
• First-Aid and CPR Certified;
• pass a criminal background check via CJIS;
• training by participant/family on participant-specific information to include preferences, positive behavior supports, when needed and disability-specific infromation;
• participate in in-service training on the Person-Centered Plan;
• complete orientation and training as designated by DDA;
• if administering medication, have a current CMT;
• possess a valid drivers license if transporting participants; and
• have automobile insurance for all vehicles that are owned, leased, and/or hired and used in the provision of services.

Setting and Location
Services can be provided in the participants’ home or in a licensed home operated by Virtuous in the Central Maryland Region.
